Study Probes Why Exercise Leaves Women More Breathless Than Men

U.S., Indian Navy Participate in Training Exercise

Posted: Friday, November 8, 2013, 9:00 AM FRIDAY, Nov. 8 (HealthDay News) — It’s widely known that women find it harder to breathe during exercise than men of a similar age — even among those with heart and lung disease. And now researchers say they’ve discovered why. A new study says women have more severe shortness of breath than men during exercise due to greater electrical activation of their breathing muscles. The research, published Nov. 8 in the journal Experimental Physiology, is the first to explain why this happens, the study authors said.

This exercise helps to advance the level of understanding between our Sailors and we hope to be able to continue this process over time. Participants from the U.S. Navy include guided-missile destroyer USS McCampbell (DDG 85), Destroyer Squadron 15 and embarked “Warlords” of Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron 51. How to exercise if you have a chronic health condition

If you have diabetes, for example, keep in mind that physical activity lowers blood sugar. Check your blood sugar level before any activity. If you take insulin or diabetes medications that lower blood sugar, you might need to eat a snack before exercising to help prevent low blood sugar. If you have arthritis, consider taking a warm shower before you exercise. Heat can relax your joints and muscles and relieve any pain you might have before you begin.

The Top Five Vitamins You Should Not Take

On the evidence, supplementing your diet with any of these 5 vitamins carries little or no benefit, and may cause you harm. This is why we do science, people. Our intuitions arent always right: just because a little bit of something is good for you does not mean that a lot of it is even better. Vitamins dont boost your immune system, they dont promote joint health, they dont reduce stress, and they dont help prevent colds or other common ailments. So what should one do? Ignore the marketing, and treat supplements like you would any other medicine: take them with caution.
